Athens - Naxos

Duration: 7 days / 6 nights
Destinations:
Portara in Naxos
Package rate per person in double room during low season From 1115

If you only have a few days to spend in Greece it may be better to focus on one islandic destination than try to fit as much island hopping as possible and end up getting stressed with moving around all the time. For this package we've chosen Naxos, an jewel in the heart of the Cycladic complex, known for its diverse coast line which gives way to beaches of all kinds. Naxos' traditional villages hold secrets waiting to be revealed, as in each one you can find culinary delights, workshops reviving crafts you thought were long gone and an endless vibe of philoxenia (the Greek spirit of welcoming) from the locals!

Naxos is full of history no matter which corner of the island you find yourselves in. In Chora, the capital of Naxos, you can see the marks the Middle Ages have left in the Old Town and the Old Market. Near its port, the ancient gate of Portara still stands, greeting visitors as they approach the island. Outside the village of Chalki, you can visit the Church of Panagia Protothronos which dates back to the 6th century. On a quarry near the village of Apollonas you can see the Colossus of Dionysus, a huge marble statue dedicated to the God winemaking. So much history condensed in a single place, begging to be explored! What are you waiting for?

Why not enhance your trip by adding Santorini, Milos or Paros?

The amount of history one can find in Athens can be daunting and when you only have one day it is easy to miss out on some very important sites. This is why the best way to see as much of Athens in a few hours is via the city tour that includes the Acropolis Museum! You will traverse the heart of Athens and see sites like the neoclassical trio of the Academy of Athens, the University of Athens, and the National Library of Greece. The tour will culminate in the Acropolis, the city’s iconic monument and still leave you with ample time left in the day to explore the rest of Athens on your own!

  • Days 4 & 5 - Explore Naxos
For the next two days you can create your own adventure around Naxos depending on what you wish to experience on the island. However we have some ideas for you if you wish to have some local insight to guide you. Naxian villages are steeped in tradition, and a private tour can take you to a workshop showing old crafts that have developed on the island, a distillery where you can sample liqueurs and an olive press that will give you insight to a revived way of life stemming from Ancient Greece! If you wish to remain in Chora, a tour of the Old Town that has been shaped by the Middles Ages with sites like the Capuchin Monastery and the Church of St. Anthony of Padua can be an enlightening experience!
