Orthodox Easter is one of the lesser known celebrations to most visitors, yet one that is held in high regard among locals! Easter in Greece brings with it a plethora of traditions and this vacation package ensures that you will participate in all of them. Immerse yourself in a part of Greece that is both spiritual and joyful, taste unique Easter-related delicacies that cannot be found at any other time of the year and partake in celebrations alongside locals throughout the Holy Week. 

Starting in Athens and after getting a taste of history with a meticulously planned sightseeing tour, you will be transported to the island of Poros for an authentic Orthodox experience. In Poros, the Easter Package included in this itinerary combines guided tours, cooking demonstrations and traditional meals & celebrations to make you spend the week of Pascha just like a local would!

  • Holy Tuesday (April 30th) - Arrival in Athens
    On arrival you will be met by our representative at the Athens International airport, to be welcomed to Athens and have all your questions answered. Afterwards, you will be transferred to your hotel by your personal driver and after some well-deserved rest you can begin your exploration of the capital. Finding a cozy traditional tavern to enjoy an authentic Greek meal with a view of the Acropolis is a no-brainer!

  • Holy Wednesday (May 1st) - Athens Half Day Sightseeing Tour
    Our collaborator will meet with you at the lobby of your hotel or someplace nearby, to start the morning half day Athens Sightseeing Tour, which has come to be known as the best way to get a taste of Athenian history in just a few hours. Travel back thousands of years by visiting some of the most prominent sights of Classical Greece, like the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch the Acropolis and its accompanying Museum among many others! The remainder of the day is at your disposal to continue experiencing the capital as it prepares for the Holy Week that is just getting started!

  • Maundy Thursday (May 2nd) - Arrival in Poros
    In the morning, your driver will transfer you from your hotel to the port to catch the ferry boat to Poros. Not long after, on the Poros port, our local collaborator will be waiting to drive you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you can attend a demonstration of the preparation of one of the most important Easter Orthodox traditions: the dyeing of the red eggs, possibly accompanied by the baking of the traditional Tsoureki (Easter bread) and Koulourakia (Easter biscuits).

  • Good Friday (May 3rd) - Epitaphios procession
    In the morning you can take part in a two-hour tour of surrounding churches and see the various Epitaphioi, a liturgical symbol of immense importance in the Greek Orthodox church. Typically consisting of a large, embroidered and often richly adorned cloth and decorated with flowers, every church gives a uniquely different design to its Epitaphio. In the evening, there is an escorted visit to one of these churches, to follow the Epitapthios procession, a pilgrimage to the waterfront of the town and a quintessential Good Friday tradition. In Poros this is an especially spectacular sight, as each church has its own procession starting at the same time and they all end up at the waterfront one after the other.

  • Holy Saturday (May 4th) - Easter Celebration
    In the evening you will be escorted to one of the churches to attend part of the first Resurrection Service. Afterwards you will be escorted to a restaurant to try Magiritsa, a soup served everywhere in Greece during the Holy Week only. Since it is an acquired taste, alternative options will be provided for the less daring among you.

  • Easter Sunday (May 5th) - Traditional Easter Feast
    The Easter feast is perhaps the culmination of the Holy Week celebrations, and you will be able to partake in it at your hotel. Unlimited wine will get you started as the traditional barbeque or Souvla is being prepared. Make sure to take lots of pictures before the Souvla is ready to be served, because afterwards you will not want to do anything other than refill your plate!

  • Renewal Monday (May 6th) - Return to Athens
    Our local collaborator will escort you from your hotel to the port of Poros in order to board the boat to Piraeus. On arrival your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your selected hotel for your last night in Athens. Make the most of this opportunity and pick up some Easter related souvenirs so your friends back home can partake in your experience!

  • Bright Tuesday (May 7th) - Departure from Athens
    After breakfast, our assistant will meet you at your hotel and after you bid farewell to a profoundly spiritual week, you will be transferred to the airport by your driver for your departure flight.
