Greece is a place of such immense history that it is sometimes daunting to decide how to narrow down your choices of what to visit. Embracing this reality can help you plan a simple itinerary during which you can immerse yourself to a specific part of Greek history. This package embodies this approach by focusing on ancient Greece and God Apollo's influence in its inhabitants' lives.
The best way to start any vacation to Greece is to get to know its capital, Athens. A modern metropolis sprinkled throughout with monuments of a world long gone, Athens can provide an effortless transition from modernity to antiquity as you stroll down alleys full of bars and restaurants only to end up looking at ruins from an ancient library. Or go on a shopping spree in the heart of the city and stumble upon an 11th century church. Of course, one can't forget the imposing view of Acropolis that follows you around no matter where you may find yourself.
After you've whet your appetite for history, it is time for the main course. You will hop on your rented vehicle and drive to Delphi, a place of incredible importance in ancient Greece, as its nickname of the 'navel of the world' plainly shows. The famous Oracle is situated in the Temple of Apollo and the priestesses occupied such a prominent position in that society that city states would consult them before every major decision was made, from war campaigns to religious matters. Soon, an entire ecosystem sprung around that temple, with theaters, stadiums, gymnasia, treasuries and other sanctuaries showing how Delphi became a cultural center. After visiting the archaeological site and museum, you will have ample time to explore the picturesque villages of Boeotia and get a feel for the impact Delphi has had on the region millennia later.
