Arachova (Central Greece)

English

Dubbed as the "winter Mykonos" of Greece, Arachova has managed to become one of the most popular Greek winter destinations over the past few decades. Nestled on Mt Parnassos, it sits in between the hustle of the capital and the serenity of the mountain, combining the best of both worlds with its picturesque, yet cosmopolitan vibe. Additionally, its position in the central region of Greece, makes Arachova a great starting point for excursions to important archaeological sites like Delphi, Olympia, Epidaurus, Corinth and Mycenae. Consequently, during the winter, Arachova is buzzing with visitors looking for a scenic getaway, winter sports aficionados and history enthusiasts.

The town has a fair amount of restaurants offering both local cuisine and more exotic flavors, as well as numerous bars. Shops can be found everywhere, with a fair amount of focus on winter sports equipment (skiing, snowboarding et al).  Exploring the town won't take long, but it is recommended to rent a car and use Arachova as your base from where you can launch day-long excursions to surrounding areas. The natural beauty of central Greece is accentuated by the diversity of its landscape, with a 30 minute drive being enough to take you from a snowy mountaintop to a secluded bay, or from a dense forest to sparsely populated towns.

Arachova is considered a winter destination and the best way to reach it is a 90 minute drive from Athens.
