Let us take you on a full day journey to the mysterious island of Kea, probably one of the last well kept secrets in the Cyclades! If you happen to be in the city of Athens and want to visit an island for a day, then this might just be what you are looking for! Your journey will begin early in the morning with a pick up from your hotel and a transfer to Lavrion port in order to embark on the ferry to Kea (approximately 1 hour). Upon arrival, we will visit Kea’s capital, Ioulida, which is spread over three hills that offer majestic views to the Aegean sea and where you will have time to explore the beautiful traditional town. Houses featuring red tile roofs and arched passages, reveal an architecture that combines elements from both the mainland and the Cyclades, exposing the uniqueness of Kea. Afterwards, we will visit the iconic Lion Stone of Kea, the island’s defining landmark, which lies at the edge of Ioulida and offers panoramic views of the town. Optionally we can also stop at the Archeological Museum or visit the remains of an old Venetian Castle.
The tour continues to the idyllic monastery of Panagia Kastriani, which stands proud on the edge of a daunting cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. After that you will be driven to one of Kea’s serene beaches, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim or have lunch in one of the areas traditional seaside restaurants. A stop near the picturesque area of Vourkari will reveal various monuments and sights of great archaeological significance, while providing photography lovers with ample opportunity to take amazing panoramic shots of the entire bay area. Before reaching the port, we will make a stop for local wine tasting and presentation of the oak trees at the acorn production farm, to find out how delicious cookies, pasta, and other local products are made. Alternatively, you may prefer to spend some extra time on the beach, sunbathing with a cocktail in your hand. Once we return to Athens, you will be transfered from the port of Lavrion back to your hotel.
